Lauren R. Lyde — Artist Bio
Lauren R. Lyde is a Baltimore-based realist artist whose paintings and drawings explore childhood, care, and the relationships and circumstances that shape human experience. Working in oil, charcoal, graphite, and colored pencil, she has a longstanding interest in the figure as a way of examining the complexities of meaningful human interaction and what those interactions can foster.
Lyde earned a BA in Visual Communication from Towson University and studied illustration at Pratt Institute and exhibition design at the Corcoran School of Art before earning an MFA in Community Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her experience as a teaching artist and arts advocate has further informed her interest in childhood, opportunity, and the conditions that influence what becomes possible in young people’s lives.
Lyde has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the region and has participated in artist residencies and community-based arts initiatives. She maintains an active studio practice.
